Why I Started Mom Blogging

August 26, 2012 by Rebekah Leave a Comment

One year and 3 days ago I became a mom. After a pretty normal pregnancy, a two and half day delivery during an earthquake (in Philadelphia…), and a terrifying bout with Post-pardum anxiety, I emerged from the tunnel into this cooky world of parenthood. While I’ve always believed in the old adage that “you learn something new everyday,” never has this rung more true for me than in my experience with parenting. Along the way I have learned this to be absolutely true of parenting:

As soon as you get comfortable with something and think you have it down to a science, it will, at the exact moment you come to this realization, change.

When I started out on this journey I had probably only held one or two babies in my entire life and had no idea what I was doing. I scrambled to learn all I could before my little one arrived. At times books were my best friends and offered great advice-other times they gave me heinous nightmares as they spelled out numerous examples of all of the things that could go wrong. I could say the same thing for friends, relatives, and the internet-some advice was sage and saved me many times. Other advice, well, the nicest way to put it is that it really made me wonder about some people.

At the end of this first year I’ve learned that I still don’t know what I’m doing half of the time. More importantly, I’ve learned that it’s O.K. not to know. There are good days and there are bad days-just like before you became a mom. Except now, you have this amazing tiny human smiling up at you everyday-even if you burned dinner and lunch, missed your deadline at work, and haven’t showered in four days. To them, you’re the greatest. So I’ve found it best to try and breathe and remember that some times you just have to wing it-and learn as you go.

And this is why, when, and how I started mom blogging. By profession I am a writer, and my natural instinct in this new situation was to write about it, in hopes that I would find community and we could help each other through our daily journey as moms.

Almost 9 years later I am still blogging because I love sharing my favorite things that I think you will also love,  and with everything I write my goal is to put something out there that shares how I got through something in the hopes that it will help you get through something similar. So welcome to my little corner of the busy parents club, and I hope you enjoy everything you find here!
